Welcome to Colonie Central High School

Welcome Back Letter from Executive Principal Behrle

Good Evening Colonie Central High School Community,

I am extremely excited to welcome everyone back to school and introduce myself to the community for the first time. My name is William Behrle and I am the new Executive Principal of the high school. I look forward to meeting everyone throughout the rest of the summer and first couple weeks of school. You will not only get to know me as an educator, hopefully, you will also get to know my family and myself on a personal level.

With a couple of weeks left in the summer, I wanted to let everyone know what to expect to see when you return or are welcomed here for the first time.

  • The building and campus were very busy this summer as a lot of it was under construction. On the campus side of things here is what you will notice:

    1. A brand new turf field! The turf field will be ready for our first home football game on October 10th.
    2. New concession stand and bathrooms that will be a part of the new entrance into Ambrosio Field.

As far as things you will notice inside the building:

    1. The MUG auditorium stage will look a little different throughout the school year. It is being transformed into a two story fitness center that will open up this school year. It will not be complete for the beginning of the school year but we expect it to be functioning soon. PE classes might have to relocate for a short period from the MUG to the PIT. This announcement will be made at the beginning of the school year.
    2. The locker rooms in the PIT will all be updated and renovated. Wolfpack teams and students will see all new team rooms and lockers in all spaces by the end of the year.
    3. The classrooms in the 290’s will all have an updated look and feel to them. This is the start of bringing the building into the 21st century. We will continue to update and upgrade our spaces over the next couple of years.
    4. There will be some new spaces along the outside walls of the library. Spaces include:
      1. A green screen / Maker space / TV Design Studio
      2. Large meeting space for classes or speakers
      3. New technology help desk office
    5. The main cafeteria will have a new entrance and food service line. Students will no longer walk through the hallway and into the kitchen to select and purchase their breakfast or lunch. There will be an entrance and exit inside the cafeteria.

With all of the changes going on here at CCHS, I ask that as a Colonie family, we appreciate the changes being made and know that they will take time. Ultimately, the campus is going to look amazing to match the students, faculty and community here in Colonie.

  • Our goals for this school year and beyond are to bring everything within the building to the 21st century. With new curriculum continuing throughout the high school level and our teachers hard at work transitioning their curriculum maps to match those standards, it will now be our job to have the technology and updated spaces to help assist in the learning of those standards. Please be patient as we transform our school into learning spaces that fit our learners now and for the future.

  • Welcome to your first year of high school! As many will explain, this is a very important year when it comes to setting the groundwork for the next four years. Mr. Pace will be working with the freshmen over the next four years. Please take a moment to enjoy his welcome letter: A Welcome Letter to Freshmen from Mr. Pace

Additionally, a brand new SMART Freshman Orientation is in its third year of existence.  Ms. Luce, Mrs. Mesick and Mr. Pace have all worked hard to have a great experience planned for you.  For those students who have registered for the SMART Orientation next week, please enjoy the Class of 2028 Freshmen Orientation Website: Class of 2028 Freshman Orientation Website.

There will be an additional “orientation” on September 4th.  Attached here you will find the information on the September 4th orientation. There is no need to sign up for this event, all are encouraged to attend. For this day, freshmen will be in the building for roughly ½ a day to walk through 10 minute period versions of their schedules and to get to know the layout of the building as well as meet their teachers.  This experience helps avoid the typical craziness of a fully populated first school day creating chaos around our Freshman and allows a lot of fear and worry to dissipate.

  • Embrace and cherish not being the youngest students in the building anymore. With this, also comes more responsibility and understanding of the expectations here at CCHS. You will start to figure out what your future might look like after high school but knowing there is still time to pivot is necessary. You will be working with Ms. McCarthy for the next 3 years. Welcome Ms. McCarthy as an Associate Principal here at CCHS! Here is a welcome letter from Ms. McCarthy.

  • This is the year to be thinking about the bigger picture and what the future holds. This year sets the true foundation for the future. Attached you will find a letter from Ms. Luce along with other information. With construction going on, parking is very limited so the junior class will not have parking to start the school year. This is something that could change as the school year goes on and construction moves forward.

  • You made it! This is the year to push yourself and make whatever adventure lies ahead of you less challenging and less stressful. Utilize your resources here at school. You will also be expected to be the leaders of the school. Help everyone know, understand and follow the rules and expectations of students here at CCHS. Your finishline is 10 months away. Make Colonie proud! Mrs. Judge has prepared a welcome back letter with information that will help get your senior year started. Additionally, here is a letter in regards to senior parking on campus.

  • Mr. Sim, our Transportation Director, will be sharing some information but wants all to know that toward the end of August, ASPEN will be fully populated with bus numbers, drop-off and pick-up times and locations.  If you have any questions whatsoever please contact the transportation department at 518-869-8527.

  • Students and families will have access to their schedules as of 3pm on Friday, August 30.  This will allow for Counselors to make last minute schedule changes and adjustments as well as maximize the accuracy of all posted schedules.

  • Lockers will be assigned on the first day of school (or during 9.4.2024 orientation for Freshman) and will be located as close as possible to each student’s last period class for the day.

  • Through my years of education it is an observation in its simplest form: Phones have become a major distraction and deterrent to progress, if you let them be.  While you are in school and particularly in class or with your friends: BE PRESENT.  The toxicity that phones can create do nothing but deteriorate your quality of learning and knowledge retention.  Choose wisely, eliminate the obstacles that keep you from being the best version of a student that you can be.

Teachers will manage their classrooms and articulate their expectations of their phone policies.  It is the administration's purview that phones have no place of value in classroom instruction and we will dutifully support the practices and expectations of our teachers when it comes to a student’s inability to comply with a no phone use policy.

  • Traveling from destination to destination:

The expectation is that of safety first.  Only 1 earbud/headphone should be in if any at all.  This allows individuals to respond to announcements and/or fire alarms.  While in class, your earbuds/headphones should be stored away and not a distraction.  It’s a simple expectation, keep it simple.

    Traveling throughout the Building (Passes):

Every place a student travels, they must have a pass provided by a staff member through our electronic hall pass system.  There are no exceptions to this nor is there a reason that a student should not be in their assigned location by the second bell, which begins a period.  This includes regular classes, lunches and study halls. We will again be using Securely or eHallPass as our pass system for the year. Anywhere you go in the building, you are expected to have created a pass to. Our monitors will be able to check the pass system in real time to know where you are coming from and where you are heading.

  • ID badges are a must for CCHS students, Freshman will receive theirs shortly after school pictures are processed.  If a student needs a new ID badge, they must report to their grade level office and request that one be ordered for them.

If you have any questions about the information above, please feel free to contact your grade level principal or your guidance counselor as they will be able to assist you in any way. Of course, I am always available to answer any questions you may have as well.

Looking forward to a great school year with lots of learning and the beginning of transforming CCHS into the 21st century. Be patient, be kind, and be yourself.
