The Albany Housing Coalition is committed to ending veteran homelessness by offering a continuum of affordable housing options and comprehensive support services to homeless veterans and low-income individuals across the Capital Region.

Through personalized case management, access to vital resources, and strong community partnerships, the Coalition empowers veterans to achieve and maintain independent, stable living while restoring dignity and hope for a brighter future.

The Albany County Sheriff’s Office provides temporary housing for people without safe shelter or a permanent address. The program helps residents by offering necessities and basic amenities, while they focus on financial savings, personal improvement, and finding permanent housing.

Things of My Very Own 

Things of My Very Own, Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides crisis intervention services to children:

• Impacted by extensive abuse and/or neglect
• At-risk of a Child Protective Services intervention

Our goal is to keep children together with non-abusive family members and out of the foster care system, whenever possible.

The transition out of an abusive situation is often sudden and unexpected. Rarely is a child able to return home to retrieve belongings prior to their move. Things of My Very Own, Inc. recognizes the need for children to have basic necessities and things of their very own as soon as possible, so they can begin their healing process.

The United Way’s ALICE (United for Alice) 

ALICE is an acronym for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed, and represents the growing number of families who are unable to afford the basics of housing, child care, food, transportation, health care, and technology. These workers often struggle to keep their own households from financial ruin, while keeping our local communities running.

Where Angels Play

The Where Angels Play Foundation was founded and its first tribute initiative “The Sandy Ground Project” was completed in just 18 months. Twenty-six playgrounds were constructed along the coast of three states and built by firefighters, police officers, teachers, school administrators and community volunteers. Each playground reflects the personality of the teacher or child for whom it is named and the project had unanimous approval and blessings of all 26 families.

Safe Harbour 

The NYS Office of Children and Family Services (NY OCFS) operates a program that implements a system-level approach within existing child welfare and allied youth-serving systems, including Runaway-Homeless Youth programs (RHY), Probation, Persons In Need of Supervision (PINS), Youth Bureaus, and other critical partners. This approach leverages existing system strengths to create a more effective and efficient response to youth who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation or trafficking, or who are vulnerable to it.

American Foundation for Suicide Prevention 

Established in 1987, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is a voluntary health organization that gives those affected by suicide a nationwide community empowered by research, education and advocacy to take action against this leading cause of death.

Northern Rivers

Northern Rivers offers a network of NYS Office of Mental Health-licensed community-based social work and psychiatric services throughout the Capital Region and beyond to support the emotional, social, and developmental needs of children, adults, and families. Our skilled and dedicated team of social workers, mental health counselors, and medical professionals provide programs tailored to different mental health needs, serving thousands of people every year through individual, group, and family psychotherapy; psychiatric assessments; medication management; and complex care management.

The Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York (RFBNENY) is a non-profit that collects and distributes millions of pounds of food to over 1,000 charitable agencies. Serving 23 counties—including Albany—it is a vital lifeline for locals struggling with hunger.

Homeless & Travelers Aide Society

The Homeless and Travelers Aid Society of the Capital District prevents, reduces, and combats homelessness within the New York State Capital Region. Also knows as HA-TAS, we address the short-term need for shelter, food, and basic support while never losing sight of the more permanent need for affordable housing, employment, food security, education, treatment, and a general sense of well-being. We believe that every person has a human right to safe and affordable housing.

Interfaith Partnerships for the Homeless

IPH is a leader in providing services to unhoused and at-risk individuals and families, many of whom have complex mental health, substance use, and other health challenges. IPH staff provide caring, compassionate, and person-centered care that meets each person’s unique needs and helps them reach their goals.

Blue Star Mothers

Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting military service members, veterans, military families, and the families of our Fallen Heroes. Founded in 1942, Blue Star Mothers brings together mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, foster mothers, and female legal guardians who have children serving in the military, National Guard, or Reserves, as well as those whose children are veterans.

Soldier On

Soldier On is a private nonprofit organization that has been committed to ending veteran homelessness since 1994. Soldier On’s mission is to help veterans reclaim their place in the community while returning meaning, dignity, and hope to their lives. Soldier On offers a continuum of ongoing care to veterans and their families that includes long-term housing with an array of support services delivered where they live. The goal is to provide homeless or at-risk homeless veterans with permanent, supportive, sustainable housing with services.
