Internships
About the CEIP Internship Program
CEIP (Career Exploration Internship Program) is a program for seniors who are interested in pursuing a 54 hour unpaid internship at a local organization to gain career readiness skills for the future!
This class is a combination of on-line learning and professional shadowing/work-based learning experience. While they are interning, students simultaneously are enrolled in 27 hours of online instruction at Colonie HS where they learn resume and cover letter writing skills, interviewing skills, workplace etiquette, workplace safety, and other relevant topics.
CEIP requires independence and responsibility. Students will have the opportunity to:
- Network with the business community for future part-time jobs, summer internships or future careers!
- Have an experience that will help them decide if you want to pursue the career in the future - possibly making choices that could save them money on future education choices.
- Build their college application and resume by illustrating that you have experience in the field that you are interested in pursuing!

Program Characteristics
A direct relationship between classroom instruction and worksite experience—The CEIP provides a realistic way to explore career options in a business setting that will assist students to make informed career decisions for the future.
Non-traditional scheduling accommodates the student’s schedule and availability of the business—The CEIP is flexible and can be delivered through a variety of scheduling options (during the school day, after school, weekends, or summer).
The program curriculum is developed by the work-based learning coordinator and businesses—The work-based learning coordinator, business/industry mentor, and student work together to create a training plan that defines the general career area that the student will explore. The coordinator and mentor then refine the training plan to outline workstations on three or four different aspects of the career area. The student will rotate through the workstations for the number of hours needed to complete the internship and the credit being earned.
